Obviously not amused by the deportation of 723 Nigerians by the Ghana Immigration Service, the Federal Government on Thursday revealed that it would soon clampdown on illegal immigrants in the country.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing Mr. Babatunde Fashola who disclosed this on Thursday at the BRF Gabfest 2 programme with the theme, ’Where Are The Jobs’, held in Lagos lamented inhuman treatment of Nigerians abroad, saying the country also has extant laws to deport illegal immigrants in the country.

He said there is current audit of workers on so many construction sites in the country to ascertain how many ECOWAS citizens who are working in the sites noting that even though they do not need a visa to come into the country but they need a work permit.

Fashola added that," But you heard that Ghana deported some Nigerians. It is the right that every country has but it is a right that we have never exercised but we are going to exercise it now.

"It is the law that every foreigner who has legitimate papers to come to Nigeria is welcomed , if you want to work in Nigeria the same regulation that applies in your country that you must get a work permit here go and get a work permit.

‘’If you don’t have a work permit here and you are in my site I will take you out. That is already happening,I refused to approve payment for one consultant two months ago because I said I wanted to see his work permit and make sure it was valid for the period the job was done and thankfully he produced it and he was paid. These are the policies about of jobs and employment that are in place by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.’

He said the issues of job creation in the country was hampered by policies enunciated by previous administration in the country.Dwelling on job creation strategy of the present administration, he said the president has issued an executive Order known as Executive Order 5, saying’’ What Executive Order 5 seek to achieve is that anytime our economy produces opportunity we must ensure that if Nigerians are able to do that job we should give them preference.’’

Fashola reminisced that after about three hundred Nigerians found themselves in difficult business terrain owing Nigerian Banks over N5 trillion, the government of the day then bailed the banks out with N5 trillion in order not bring the country’s banking system down and collapse the economy.

The minister noted that while there was nothing wrong in supporting them not to cripple the economy , the three hundred people involved never showed any sign of remorse ,neither did the government that was in power then deemed it fit to ensure some lesson were learnt from the drawbacks their actions or inactions caused the country. He explained that, the lesson from that experience informed why the Buhari led government decided to support people at the base of the pyramid by starting with social intervention funds to cushion poverty and established N-power and school feeding programme for over nine million children, among others.

Fashola said the programmes had overtime created a linkage support for farmers producing the food stuff needed to keep the programme going.

Buhari on the other side, gave his opinion about election rigging.

This is what he said:
"I will never use my powers to rig election. I don't need to. I won't disrespect Nigerians. We want a process that will allow Nigerians to choose freely. I have gone round the country, with what I saw, I have no reason to rig''.

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane's house was burgled while he was playing in the Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.

Items including watches, mobile phones and car keys were stolen.

The incident happened at Mane's house in Allerton, south Liverpool between 18:00 and 23:45 GMT - while the 26-year-old was at Anfield. No-one was in the property at the time.

Forensic examinations are under way and a police investigation is ongoing.

Detective Inspector Phil Mahon, of Merseyside Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this burglary to please come forward and assist our inquiries.

"While the occupants were not present at the time of the incident this will no doubt be a distressing experience for them and I would ask the offenders to do the right thing and return the stolen items to the owner in any way possible.

"We know the watches in particular are of significant monetary value and I would also like to appeal to anyone who might have been offered the items for sale since the burglary to contact police."

Senegal international Mane was burgled in November 2017 while he was at Anfield for a Champions League game against Maribor.

A gang was thought to have broken into his home first before smashing a patio door at the nearby address of team-mate Dejan Lovren before they fled when a woman shouted she was calling the police.

I'm still in shock after i came in contact with a prophecy a boy prophesied some years ago (in the year 2015) and now, all what the boy has said has been coming to pass.

Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard took his first steps into football management with Championship club Derby at the start of the season and has taken the team to within two points off the play-off places.

Sarri was put under increasing pressure after a 6-0 hammering at Manchester City earlier this month - their third Premier League defeat in four games - saw them drop out of the top four to sixth in the table.

The Blues had conceded four away at Bournemouth in the previous game following a 2-0 loss to Arsenal at the Emirates, after which Sarri questioned whether his players could be motivated at all.

The Italian,Sarri, who succeeded Antonio Conte following his acrimonious departure last summer, faces two crucial games to close out the week - a Europa League last-32 second leg against Swedish side Malmo FF, with his team 2-1 ahead, and the Carabao Cup final at Wembley against City.

Zola - the former Chelsea forward - defended his boss' position in the build-up to the United defeat, insisting they were going through a tough spell in pursuit of a breakthrough in his philosophy.

He also insisted the players do care, and compared their situation to the difficulties Pep Guardiola endured during his first season at the Etihad.

But Sarri admitted he was concerned about the result to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's resurgent United, stating his side had played "confusing" football in the second half.

"I am worried about the result not our fans," he said. "Of course I can understand their frustration. The result was not very good. We are out of the FA Cup.

"We played confusing football in the second half but in the first half I think we played well. We need more aggression and more determination in the situations inside our own box and inside the opposition box. The difference was there."

A woman whose leg will soon be amputated wants to use the skin fro  to upm the amputated leg to make a handbag.

Joan, 55, from Manchester, has peripheral arterial disease, and as a result, she will need to have her lower left leg removed.

In order not to let her discarded leg go to waste, Joan is on the hunt for a designer who is willing to turn her leg into a purse.
She took her request to Sewport.com who have mocked up potential designs of the handbag and are hoping to connect her with designers willing to work with human skin. Joan’s budget is £3,000 and she is hoping for a medium-sized bag with a short strap.

Requesting for a designer bag, Joan wrote:
I know it is a bit odd and gross, and some might think I’m crazy, but it’s my leg and I can’t bare the thought of it being left to rot somewhere.
It’s part of me and I want to keep it.

Joan adds:
I don’t know if this is even plausible, but I’m thinking if we use animal skin for garments and accessories then why can’t the same be done with our skin.
Surely there is someone out there that can apply the same methods.
I know it’s gross, but people keep their baby’s umbilical cords and have relative’s ashes on display, so it’s not really that weird if you think about it.

The Blues fell to their fourth loss in their last eight games on Monday night, with Paul Pogba playing a starring role for United as the Red Devils eliminated Maurizio Sarri’s men from the FA Cup.

The Stamford Bridge side have also suffered humiliating defeats to Bournemouth and Manchester City in recent weeks, further casting doubts over Sarri’s future at the club.

The Italian manager appears to be failing to implement his ‘Sarriball’ style of football with any degree of success, with the club now also sixth in the Premier League.

And Pedro, who has been a Chelsea player since 2015, has called for his club team-mates to bounce back immediately over the next week.

The club’s next game is in the Europa League against Malmo before a Carabao Cup final against City, and Pedro believes the next two games are vital in trying to put their season back on track.

“It’s a pity because it was a good opportunity for us to continue in this competition,” Pedro told the club’s official website after the FA Cup defeat to United.

“It was a very bad day for us, for all the team. It’s a difficult situation. In the first half we played very well, we created chances to score one goal, but they had two situations and scored two goals.

“The most important thing was to do a good job creating chances with the ball in the second half, but we couldn’t do it and for this reason it was so difficult for us to come back.

“There is an important game in the Europa League for us, and, after, the final against City.

“The most important thing now is to stay calm, train really hard and recover our best football and our best feeling, because if not we are in trouble.”

Nigerian actress and singer, Bisola Aiyeola, has narrated how the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, contributed immensely to her career success.

Speaking in an interview, she said the TV show made her become a household name in year 2017 when she became the first runner-up in the Big Brother Naija ‘See Gobe’ edition.

Bisola said a lot of people might not remember that before her time in the Big Brother House, she was on a music talent hunt show, Project Fame West Africa in 2008 where she came fifth.

She later went on to become a TV host of Billboard Nigeria and even had a lead role in the TV series, ‘Life of a Nigerian Couple’.

Bisola said: “Big Brother Naija is an amazing platform to actualize your dreams and goals.

“It is important for incoming housemates to make use of the platform to advertise their skills to a continent-wide audience, as this is an exposure that will change anyone’s life for good.”

She noted that her time in the Big Brother Naija house enabled her to advance her music and acting career, which later landed her a management deal with The Temple Management Company which already houses big names like Don Jazzy, Iyanya, 9ice, Nigerian sprinter Seye Ogunlewe; and has released an EP and music videos.

It will be recalled that since her exit from the show, she has attended the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York as an Ambassador of One Campaign Initiative.

She had also secured more movie roles and won the AMVCA “Trail Blazer” award in 2018 – an achievement she says she’s most proud of.

On the anniversary of her departure from the show in 2018, she wrote: “Today is a birthday of sorts for me. One year ago, I left the Big Brother House as runner-up and set upon a path that has been beyond my wildest dreams.

“People always ask me about my time in the house, but truth is none of us imagined the hype surrounding everything we were doing and how our lives were going to change.

“It still takes me by surprise when I travel around the world and people come up to me to wish me well and sometimes even quote things, I said from a year ago.

“I went into the house with just one purpose which was to reach as many people and showcase my talent. When I think of the things that my Big Brother experience has allowed me to do in the past 12 months, it is difficult to do so without overwhelming gratitude.

“It has allowed me greater selection in the kind of projects I do. It has given me the opportunity to add my voice to the plight of our young girls who have the smallest voices in our country.

“Most important, it has allowed me to be closer to all of you.I thank @multichoice_africa, @payporte and @dstvnigeria for the life-changing opportunity. I thank My mother, my sister @Adunola.a, My daughter Leyla for their constant support. I thank you @biodunstephen and @thetemplecompany for always having my back.

“I thank each and every one of you for continuing to tolerate my craziness and allowing me to be myself. Trust me when I say you ain’t seen nothing yet! I love you all. #NaTheWorkWeDeyDo #BeTheMovement #TMC #TMPL #BBNaija”

Daily Trust recalls that since the launch of Big Brother Naija in 2006, it has garnered a huge following and created superstars, including Miracle Igbokwe Ikechukwu, who emerged winner in its 2018 edition.

According to the organisers of the TV show, the Big Brother Naija has democratized success so anybody can become very famous.

“That’s why young Nigerians consider it to be the biggest platform to showcase skills and inner creativity.

“In Big Brother Naija every housemate is a winner whether you go home with the cash prize or not, if you can successfully sell your talent and yourself, you’re made,” it stated.

How BBNaija Impacted My Career-Bisola Aiyeola

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party on Wednesday in Kaduna reiterated his plan to privatise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC), if elected president on Feb 23.

Abubakar spoke at a town hall meeting with ward, local government and state party leaders in the state at the Kaduna Trade Fair Complex.

He said that the NNPC had failed to serve the purpose for which it was established in 1977.

According to him, selling-off the Corporation and all the three refineries is the best option for the country, likening it to the sale of Nigerian Telecommunication Limited (NITEL).

Abubakar said Nigeria is among the biggest producers of crude, but lamented that the country still imports refined products for local consumption at exorbitant prices to the detriment of the common man.

He said, if elected President, he would deregulate the NNPC and sell it to Nigerians. the way Obasanjo sold NITEL.

However, he forgot to mention that the sale of NITEL was disastrously done.

Under Obasanjo, NITEL went through several botched sales and management turnaround contracts. First, 51 per cent of the shares was sold to a group of investors under the trading name of Investors International London limited.

The sale was cancelled after the investors failed to pay. Then in 2003, , the government approved a management turnaround contract with a firm called Pentascope. The contract was cancelled in 2005 after it became clear Pentascope did not have the adequate resources to run NITEL.

In 2005, government again offered NITEL to Orascom. This failed again, leading the government to sell it to a subsidiary of Transcorp in 2007. The sale was revoked in 2009. In 2014, the firm was sold to NATCOM, a group of investors led by Tunde Ayeni. Ayeni since then has been running it as NTEL.

Abubakar, also former Vice president, urged the people of Kaduna state to massively vote for the PDP, promising to allocate 40 per cent appointments to the youth to address the rising unemployment and restiveness.

He said that, his government if elected, would make education a priority by providing scholarships to all deserving youth and women in the country.

Abubakar also promised to allocate 30 per cent of appointments to women, adding that, he would provide adequate funds through the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency to empower women and the youth.

He said that his leadership would address, what he described as alarming insecurity, with killings of innocent Nigerians across all the geopolitical regions.

Abubakar appealed to the electorate to vote the PDP into political offices in the state for the betterment of the people.

He said he would allocate more resources to the states and local government areas for faster development across the country.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, urged the Kaduna State Party leaders to work tirelessly to ensure the success of the party at the Feb 23 and March 9 general elections.

The Governorship candidate of the party, Isah Ashiru said the party would bring development at all levels to the state, if voted into power.

Ashiru said his administration would reduce poverty to the minimum and create employment opportunities for the youth and women as well as persons with disabilities.

Ashiru appealed to the people come out en masse and vote for the party and ensure their votes count.

He, however, urged the youth against violence during and after the polls.
The chairman of the party in the state , Mr Felix Hassan Hyat spoke in the same vein.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that former Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, former National chairman of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, former governors Ramalan Yero of Kaduna and Ibrahim Shema of Katsina were among top party leaders that attended the event.(NAN)

Some yet-to-be-identified members of staff of Ikeja Electric have been assaulted by a resident of Itele area of the Iju-Atan Ilogbo Local Council Development Area of Ogun State while trying to disconnect power supply to his residence.

In a viral clip video, the resident engaged one of the technicians in a fist fight before he rushed into his apartment to get a machete and attacked another of the technicians.

Despite pleas from fellow residents, the young man was seen in the footage beating the technician with the machete before he was dragged away by other residents.

Some residents could be heard appealing that the fighters should be separated, while a lady could also be heard saying that the duo should be left alone. It was learnt that the incident happened on Friday.

The Public Relations Officer, Ikeja Electric, Felix Ofulue, who condemned the attack, said investigations were ongoing on the matter and that the firm would explore all legal means to seek redress.

Ofulue said, “We strongly condemn the rising spate of attacks on our employees. It is simply unacceptable that they should be attacked while carrying out their legitimate duties. Security personnel are doing their job about it; investigations are ongoing and when the report is out, we will explore all legal means possible to seek redress and we won’t take it lightly.

“As a responsible organisation, we have provided multiple redress channels through which customers can express themselves. Even the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has provided a forum for dissatisfied customers to further seek resolution. So, to brutally attack our people in this manner displays a total disregard for humanity, a situation that we will not take lightly.

“Our commitment to providing our customers quality service is sacrosanct; however, Ikeja Electric will spare no resources to bring to justice any person or group of persons, who take the law into their hands by inflicting bodily harms on any of its employees. We will go as far as the law permits as we are duty bound to do.”

It was learnt that the matter had been reported to the police.

Miss Erica Oraeki, 25, on Sunday night emerged  the 2019 Miss Valentine Africa beauty queen, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Oraeki, an undergraduate of Computer Studies from the  National Open University (NOUN), Lagos, defeated other five contestants in a keenly contested competition  held at Eden Hotel and Resorts in Otta.

The correspondent of NAN who covered the event observed that Oraeki’s emergence was based on her intelligent responses to questions from the panel of judges.

The seasoned model from Anambra, who was shocked when the result was announced told NAN that it was her second attempt in the Miss Valentine beauty pageant contest.

She said, “I am really excited and grateful to God for this great honour and opportunity to serve as an ambassador for peace in my country.

“I thank all those who encouraged me to attain this new status after my first attempt in the 2014 edition,’’ Oraeki told NAN.

She said that her focus as an ambassador for love and peace would be to express love to the less privileged children.

“My first assignment will be to visit homes for the less privileged and offer gifts to them as a way of expressing my love and care to them.

“ I will also spread the message of peace and love across the country through public peace rally, which is very vital at this period that the nation is about conducting its general  elections,” she told NAN.

Oraeki who is the third Miss Valentine Africa expressed gratitude to God for seeing her emerging the overall winner in the competition.

Similarly, 18-year-old Precious Esah, came second while 26-year-old Cynthia Nwando came third.

Earlier, the organiser of the pageant, Mr Dickson Buffalo had said in his address that the essence of the contest was to preach love and peace to Nigerians.

“There is the need to awaken the consciousness of Nigerians to express love for one another, especially, at this critical period when Nigerians would be conducting their general elections.

“It is the only key to peace and development.

“ When we talk about it, we are practically changing the concept of Nigerians from ethnic divisions, fighting, killings, tribalism, kidnappings and several other vices,” he said.

Buffalo, also the chairman, Board of Trustees, MJV Africa Foundation, said that the new queen would become an ambassador of peace and love in Nigeria.

He said that the new queen would go home with mouthwatering gifts from the organiser and the management of Eden Hotel and Resorts as well as from others that co-sponsored the contest.

He added that those who came second and third would also go home with their own prizes.

Buffalo also said that other contestants would be given consolation prizes by the various sponsors.

He said that contest, which started in 2014, could not hold between 2015 and 2017 owing to lack of sponsors.

He said that the organizer, however, resumed the staging of the contest in 2018.

Buffalo said that the first queen was Estino Nwanze, an actress while the immediate past queen was Perpetual Umoh, a private entrepreneur, who finally handed the crown to Oraeki.

Highlights of the event that occurred three days after the 2019 Valentine’s Day include various musical, comedy and dance performances by some artists.

Kogi State deputy governor, Elder Simon Achuba has the Commissioner of Police of Kogi State command, Hakeem Bushari of complicity in his security withdrawal.

At a press briefing yesterday Elder Achuba reiterated that it was a constitutional right for the deputy governor of the State to have security details around him, noting that his own case should not be an exception.

“On the eve of election when I was set to travel to my constituency where I registered, as a lawful member of All Progressive Congress,(APC), to cast my vote before postponement,my orderly was recalled by the ADC to the governor and rendered incommunicado till date “, Achuba stated.

According to the deputy governor, all attempts to obtain explanation from the police commissioner, who by the heirachy of police functions understands the reason for the withdrawal of the security proved abortive.

“I called the State Police Commissioner severally, sent him text messages to officially intimate him about the sudden disappearance of my security men, my orderly and those attached to my house without response”.

“I have to intimate the general public that my life as deputy governor of Kogi State has become a source of worry and all to know that my family and my life is in danger “, the deputy governor stressed.

Aaron Ramsey’s unique style in midfield will be missed at Arsenal, according to former manager Arsene Wenger.

The 28-year-old will join Juventus on a free transfer in the summer after signing a pre-contract agreement with the Serie A champions, moving when his existing deal at the Emirates expires on July 1.

Ramsey played under Wenger for 10 years and the pair enjoyed relative success, lifting the FA Cup three times, with Ramsey twice scoring the winning goal.

Speaking at the Laureus Sport for Good presentation, Wenger said: "It will be a loss for Arsenal. I must say it will be an interesting move for Ramsey.

"He is a player who is great going forward. His main quality is he can keep the final ball and he makes interesting runs from deep.

"You don't find many players today who can make midfield runs off the ball. It will be an interesting addition for Juventus."

Actress Lydia Forson has said she prefers to leave a legacy as someone who has also educated society with her works than just an entertainer.

Speaking at the Friday night premiere of her new series titled ‘Puzzled’, the award winning actress said she doesn’t want to be remembered for only entertainment.

According to her, she will be proud to be remembered for educating people.

That, she explained, was the reason she took up her new role as human right lawyer in the new series. The series educates while advocating the right of children and persons with disability in society.

“When I read the script it gave me an opportunity to continue the work that I am doing but then in an environment where I was more comfortable. The arts is not just to entertain, it is to educate as well. And so I just knew it was just about telling me. So on set I became a lawyer. Every episode I was arguing, I was too serious. At a point Michael (director) will say it’s just a film… It shows how much passion we put into it,” she said at the Friday premiere.

"It is nerve-racking. If you are an actor and you have done all these glossy movies and the glitz and glamour, it is a risk I am willing to take because when I die one day, yes we will die one day… I want to be remembered for educating people not just entertaining people,” she also added.

Lydia played the role of a human rights activist, Korkor Cofie. She is society’s definition of a successful advocate – brilliant, charismatic, charming, elegant and passionate. With her team at Kork & Co, she defends and fights for the rights of children, youth and persons with disabilities at all costs. Korkor, despite her tough exterior, has to fight her own internal battles that go against everything she stands for.

Directed by Michael Ama Psalmist, the series is a Youth Bridge Foundation initiative funded by Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

Aside Lydia Forson, it also features Imoh Eboh, Maame Serwaa, David Muchilee, Naa Koshie Lamptey, Louisa Ankrah, Philip Addoquaye, Gideon K. Appiah, Susan Musa A and Lord Mensah.

The premiere ceremony, which was held at the TV3’s Executive Theatre, attracted a number of dignitaries, including ex-Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture, Dzifa Gomashie.
