A Brazilian professor, Luciana Dorin, has refused to undergo a surgery to remove a large tumour on her face.

According to Dailymail , Dorini suffers from a condition known as arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of blood vessels under the skin causing disfigurement .

She was born with a tiny birthmark on her right cheek that has swollen over the years , developing into a rare tumour.

Dorin’ s mother, Lucia, said her daughter was eight months old when her gums started haemorrhaging and had to be taken to the hospital , where she had surgery and almost died.

She said , “ Not even the doctors knew what it was. ”

According to Luciana, she has had 19 surgical sessions to remove a tumour but it had all proven abortive and she is not willing to take the risk any longer.

She said , “ My fear is putting my life at risk in an operating theatre and having to suffer all over again. I think I have already suffered as a result of necessary surgeries .

“ Looking different doesn’ t stop me from doing anything. Of course I won ’ t stop thinking about the possibility of having surgery to reduce the volume , but for now , no. ”

Dorin explained that as a child , she never saw herself as being different neither did she suffer any social problems.

“ Socially , I never had a problem with it. I wanted to take part in everything , If they needed a main character for a play, that would be me . If they needed a model for a fashion show , I ’ d do it. I was never hiding” , she said .
